Gonzalo Portas (BIdes hons) is an Associate Lecturer at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia.

Gonz is the Director and Co-founder at EVOX Medical and has other significant business interests as the Director of Portas Pty Ltd.

Gonzalo is pursuing the option of fulfilling  his academic ambitions by completing further advanced research such as a Phd to compliment his Undergraduate studies.

Gonzalo completed his Industrial Design studies earning a Honors Class 1 degree as recognition for his efforts at UNSW in 2010. He was further rewarded as a finalist at the Australian Design Awards and has exhibited at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, Australia.

At UNSW he has taught many different disciplines in the design curriculum including: Design Fundamentals, Ergonomics, various Studios, Drawing Techniques, Workshop Techniques and  Model Making. His responsibilities in the Faculty of the Built Environment extends to the convening of the Communications courses for the Industrial Design program. He has continued to fulfil his academic experience in 2014 by lecturing at the Global Studies Centre at UNSW.

EVOX Medical Research was founded in 2012 as Gonzalo pursued the commercialisation of the Organ Transportation Device that was designed at UNSW in 2009. With his business partner he has past significant milestones in the procurement techniques and advances in the preservation of human organs for the purpose of transplantation. The future in this space is very exciting and he is pursuing various different funding options for the next phase of the commercialisation of the device.

A designer plans things for manufacture or construction. The difference between a designer and a craftsperson or artist is that designers usually develop things that have requirements set by others and will ultimately be produced by others.
